About FARE

FARE is a national not-for-profit organisation with a clear purpose: to create healthy and safe communities by preventing the harm Australians experience every day because of alcohol. We work with communities, governments and health professionals who are raising public awareness of alcohol harm and advocating for changes to alcohol policy.

FARE has a new leadership team and an ambitious agenda that will see the organisation undertake significant change over the next two years in order to tackle bold new projects. If you want to be part of a team working on nation-wide public education campaigns, undertaking advocacy at national, state and territory levels, and giving a voice to communities — this job is for you.

As Senior Communications Advisor you will be part of a small, nimble Communications and Campaigns team that works to produce high-quality communications designed to achieve the organisation’s public policy, health promotion, advocacy and fundraising objectives.

Please note that this role is a 6 month contract (Maternity Leave Cover).

What you will work on

  • Collaborating with internal stakeholders and external vendors to imagine, develop, execute and evaluate FARE projects and campaigns.
  • Developing strategic communications approaches and messaging for FARE.
  • Writing high-quality creative copy across FARE’s communication channels, especially email and web.
  • Proofreading and copyediting content prepared by others, such as content drafted by FARE’s policy, government relations and health promotion teams.
  • Creating, curating and producing editorial content for FARE’s publications as well as external media.
  • Attracting, retaining and developing community supporters and donors through clear story development, compelling copy, and timely, strategic asks.

What you will have or bring to the team

  • A can-do approach, creative thinking and a passion for achieving results.
  • High-level communication skills that are adaptable across FARE’s priorities (health promotion, public policy, advocacy campaign and organisational communications).
  • Strong project and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience in planning, producing (writing/designing), editing and evaluating communications.
  • An ability to lead projects while managing competing deadlines.
  • Professional experience in or commitment to the work of not-for-profit, public health, charitable and/or membership organisations.
  • Relevant qualifications and/or 5+ years’ experience in communications, public relations, campaigning, digital media, marketing or journalism.
