True’s Child and Family Service in Cairns are looking for an experienced therapist to work with children and families.
As a Therapist - (Child and Family) you will:
- Provide confidential face to face counselling and psycho-education to children or young people who have experienced sexual abuse; have problematic sexual behaviours or engage in harmful sexual behaviours.
- Provide confidential counselling and support to the non-offending family members / carers/support networks.
- Provide protective behaviour education and safety planning.

Selection criteria:
- Experience in working therapeutically with children and families who have experienced trauma.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology or Behavioural Sciences to such level that entitles membership or registration with respective professional body.
- Evidence of membership/registration with respective professional body.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation and ethical requirements.
- Demonstrated understanding of cross-cultural issues (primarily those relating to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander culture) in providing counselling and support services to children, families and communities who have experienced sexual assault.
- Ability to understand appropriate legislation, best practice guidelines and policy and procedures interagency protocols in relation to child sexual abuse and child protection.
- Ability to adapt training materials and delivery to meet the needs of a specific group or person.
- Experience in working within or in partnerships with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, communities and organisations.
Other:
- A current “Working with Children – Blue card, issued in the State of Queensland, and a current Criminal history check is required at time of interview.
