Sutherland Shire Family Services (SSFS) SSFS is a not-for-profit organisation which aims to support and strengthen the capacity of families within our community by providing programs and services designed to contribute to the promotion and maintenance of safety and well-being amongst all family members.

The Position:

The Domestic Violence Caseworker provides high quality casework to Families and Children who are experiencing Domestic and/or Family Violence in accordance with the SSFS model of care and in alignment with the business and strategic plans of the organisation. The Domestic Violence Caseworker is responsible for managing a caseload of clients, provision of casework, group programs and therapeutic programs for children and families. The Domestic Violence Caseworker is required to maintain accurate client records and work within SSFS’s Policy and Procedures. The Domestic Violence Specialist is also required to contribute to the ongoing evidence based program enhancement.

Responsibilities of this role

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Undertake client assessments for families referred for Domestic Violence Support.
  • Deliver individual casework and safety planning, to families who been referred to SSFS for Domestic Violence Support support in line with DCJ contractual requirements and SSFS’s policy and procedures.
  • Deliver group programs and therapeutic programs to children and/or families that have been referred to SSFS for support in line with SSFS’s policy and procedures. 
  • Deliver evidenced based parenting programs and therapeutic programs to families that have been referred to SSFS for support in line with and SSFS’s policy and procedures. 
  • Accurately record and maintain client records on data recording systems as per SSFS policy and procedures and program guidelines. 
  • Provide crisis support, safety planning and referrals to families if assessed as required. 
  • Work collaboratively with relevant external services to ensure best outcomes for clients.  
  • Follow mandatory child protection guidelines to report risk of significant harm concerns about if any concerns about a child or young person are identified during contact with clients.
  • Contribute to reports on program progress, statistics and outcomes of Family Support Program when required.
  • Contribute to relevant funding submissions, expressions of interest, tenders and grants to assist in growing and sustaining the funding base.
  • Contribute towards the development of an outcome framework which establishes and maintains relevant and robust systems and methods for data collection and project evaluation.
  • Leads and works in ways consistent to support the Work, Health and Safety of self and others.  

Selection Criteria 

Essential:

1. Tertiary qualifications in Social Work or relevant degree.
2. Detailed knowledge and understanding of Domestic and Family Violence. 
3. Demonstrated experience providing casework support children and families.  
4. Understanding of and ability to work from a trauma informed practice model and utilise therapeutic approaches.
5. Excellent organisation and administration skills and the ability to accurately maintain client files. 
6. Ability to utilise outcomes and evidence to refine develop and refine service delivery. 
7. High level experience utilising various IT applications.
8. Excellent communication skills with the ability promote SSFS services externally include to the community, government and private organisations. 
9. Ability to work within SSFS’s policies and procedures.
Desirable: 
10. Trained to deliver evidence based parenting programs.
11. Drivers licence
