We are seeking a skilled and experienced evaluation manager to join one of our Sydney teams, managing projects in our Aboriginal projects portfolio, as well as evaluations of in a broad range of human services policy and program areas.

About the role

An ARTD Manager is responsible for managing consultancy projects to fully meet client requirements and achieve income targets. A Manager also contributes to ARTD’s strategic directions in winning new business, supporting professional growth of staff, building our capacity and the quality of our services.

You will be expected to:

• Coordinate and prepare proposals with the oversight of a Director or Senior Manager
• Manage consultancy projects as project manager in line with ARTD’s guidelines including:
  • Manage communications with clients to understand and meet their needs
  • Develop and maintain the project plan in consultation with the team
  • Put together and manage a team of ARTD employees (and where appropriate sub-contractors) with the competencies and time to fully meet the project’s requirements
  • Lead the project team and coordinate project activities and ensure the achievement of agreed milestones/ deliverables to quality and budget
  • Maintain the quality of all processes and deliverables by monitoring and making improvements
  • Alert Directors to jointly manage risks as they arise
  • Write and present project findings in formats that meet client and other audience’s information needs

• As a member of project teams, contribute professional expertise and agreed services to consultancy projects with accountability to other project Managers
• Establish and manage professional relationships with clients
• Achieve your agreed annual consulting target income
• Contribute to ARTD as a learning organisation through:
  • Building your own skills
  • Drawing on your specialist knowledge to help develop conceptual/ analytical frameworks, methods and tools needed for project design, data collection, analysis, synthesis and reporting
  • Coaching other staff
• Grow your own and ARTD’s profile (e.g. through publications, presentations, attendance at conferences, maintaining networks)
• Maintain records required for ARTD’s administration, quality and reporting systems
• Undertake internal projects and other duties as assigned by Directors.

Selection criteria

• Demonstrated experience in writing successful proposals for large and/or complex projects
• Demonstrated ability to develop mixed-method evaluation designs
• Demonstrated ability to manage program evaluation or research on social policy and programs of varying scales to a high quality on time and on budget, including achieving ethics approval and managing team members
• Demonstrated commitment to developing own skills and those of other staff
• A sound understanding and track record of working with Aboriginal people and communities, and other diverse groups
• Demonstrated ability to write reports that communicate technical concepts to non-expert audiences
• Demonstrated experience building collaborative working relationships with colleagues, clients and other stakeholders
• Critical thinking, conceptual and analytical ability

Qualifications

• Qualification or commensurate professional experience in social sciences or other relevant discipline e.g. sociology, policy, anthropology, development studies, psychology, economics, communications
• Desirable: post-graduate qualifications
