ARTD Consultants is seeking a Consultant/Senior Consultant. We are a leading Australian public policy consultancy firm delivering services in evaluation and strategy. Our clients are government departments and non-government organisations around Australia. We offer a flexible, friendly and cooperative work culture with offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

This role is located at our office in Melbourne. We are a small team that works across several sectors including mental health, disability, education and sustainability. The role involves supporting senior staff across evaluations and other consultancy projects covering a variety of subject areas.

The role will suit a curious and proactive person with an interest in public policy who has research and/or evaluation experience and excellent attention to detail. We are looking for someone with qualitative experience who is keen to work in a collaborative team.

Specific responsibilities

  • Manage project tasks to meet quality standards, time and budget, with the supervision of senior staff, including:
    • design and manage agreed components of a project (e.g. survey design and administration, conducting interviews and thematic analysis)
    • arrange fieldwork, workshops and meetings
    • ongoing communication with clients about day-to day project administration
    • contribute to and prepare project deliverables.
  • Contribute to proposals with the support of senior staff
  • Proof and format proposals, plans, reports and other deliverables
  • Contribute to ARTD as a learning organisation including building your own expertise, sharing knowledge, developing methods and tools, and improving practices
  • Maintain project management, time records and budgets using company platform
  • Maintain records required for administration, quality and reporting systems
  • Undertake internal projects and duties as assigned by the ARTD Directors

Position Criteria

  • Active listening, asking questions and clarifying instructions when necessary
  • Critical thinking, conceptual and analytical ability
  • Interest in research and evaluation, contributing to social policy
  • Skill and interest in quantitative and/or qualitative research methods
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook including the ability to use MS Word and Excel templates in the ARTD in house style
  • Proficiency in SPSS and/or Tableau and/or NVivo coding skills for data management
  • Technical skill or strong generalist skills (survey design, basic statistics, data visualisation, interviewing, focus groups, facilitation) for data collection and analysis
  • Skills in research methods and associated activities including systematic reviews; development of ethics applications
  • Clear client-facing communications
  • Write clear and concise summaries of information to an external standard
  • Manage allocated tasks on time and budget
  • Attention to detail
  • Effective time management skills, managing multiple tasks to competing deadlines
  • Value working as part of a team, producing high quality work collaboratively

Qualifications and experience

  • Qualification or commensurate professional experience in social sciences or other relevant discipline e.g. sociology, policy, anthropology, development studies, psychology, economics, communications
