Community Organiser - Latrobe Valley

Environment Victoria

Environment Victoria is one of Australia’s leading not-for-profit environment groups, with a strong history of running strategic, dynamic, people-powered and successful campaigns to take action on climate change and improve environmental protections.

Our community organising program is building a people-powered movement to stop climate change and to make sure the transition to a clean energy economy is done fairly with impacted communities front and centre. Alongside our work building community power and mobilising our Victoria-wide supporter base to take action, we support local communities to run strategic, place-based campaigns to shift Victoria from polluting fossil fuels to clean energy.

This role has been developed to work in our community organising team to build community power in the Latrobe Valley in support of our Beyond Coal campaign. The role works closely with local groups and organisations in the region who are active on issues around coal pollution, mine rehabilitation and the energy transition.

We are looking for someone highly motivated, hard working and passionate about empowering volunteers to get active in social movements for positive change. You care about climate justice and centering communities on the frontlines of the energy transition. You have a strategic understanding of community dynamics; you know all about building and leveraging community power to get a win. You are digitally savvy, and you want to be part of a diverse movement that includes us all.

The position will commence July / August 2021.
