Board Directors (Volunteers)

Ethiopiaid Australia is an Australian-based, non-profit fundraising organisation, raising money for trusted field partners in Ethiopia.

We are founded on the premise that sustainable change should be local, not imported, which is why we form partnerships with local, grassroots organisations who are best placed to help their people and their region. We fund multiple areas of work across Ethiopia, with our ultimate vision for an Ethiopia free from poverty in which every person has access to quality education, healthcare and a life of dignity.

We are seeking two Volunteer Directors to join our Board. As a Director on our Board, you will have the chance to be part of a dynamic, change-driven organisation that is achieving remarkable results in fundraising and making sustained, positive impact for areas of need across Ethiopia.

As a Volunteer Director, you will help to advise, govern and advance Ethiopiaid Australia’s strategic direction in line with our vision, mission and needs, through the following:

  • Organisational leadership and advice
  • Formulation and oversight of policies and procedures
  • Financial management and assistance with budget formulation
  • Participation in the development of strategy
  • Utilisation of professional skills and experience

Expectations and Commitment

  • Fulfilling a director’s duties and responsibilities ethically in line with the AICD guidelines, and with integrity
  • Preparing for, attending and participating in meetings on a regular basis: approximately four - six board meetings and regular sub-committee meetings each year
  • Participating in one major fundraising or organisational event per year
  • Utilising your network to help grow and support Ethiopiaid Australia’s fundraising efforts
  • Contributing actively for an estimated 10 - 15 hours per month

Key Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge and expertise in international development or healthcare (highly desirable)
  • Capacity to make appropriate introductions and connections to relevant networks
  • Governance knowledge and experience, or the capability to develop this skill
  • Proven ability to think creatively and solve problems

To complement the skills and experience of our current Board, it would be desirable though not essential for applicants to have experience in one of the following:

  • International development
  • Healthcare or the medical industry
  • Philanthropy or major donor stewardship
  • Prior experience working in Ethiopia

Ethiopiaid Australia provides a comprehensive induction and ongoing support for new Board members. We are an apolitical, non-religious and inclusive employer, and we welcome applicants of all backgrounds to apply.
