• Corporate climate risk

A unique opportunity for a corporate litigation lawyer (1-3 PQE) exists to work on landmark climate change litigation across Australian jurisdictions. You will be working for Equity Generation Lawyers, a start-up firm specialising in climate risk litigation.

An immediate focus will be the world-first McVeigh v Rest Federal Court case scheduled for trial in Sydney in July 2020. You will also be involved in advisory work and a pipeline of new matters that test financiers, corporates and others in the important realm of climate risk.

An interest in climate change and the interaction with corporations law, trustee law and government processes is key. Civil litigation experience and knowledge of Federal Court and Supreme Court processes are desirable. Background knowledge or interest in the UNFCCC, IPCC and TCFD as well as developments in international and domestic climate litigation and policy will be viewed kindly.

A problem solving mindset and an ability to think both logically and strategically are strongly desired. If you have a dash of creativity and lateral thinking bound by the possibilities of the legal framework - we want you.

You must be willing to learn about a complicated, fast-moving area and apply reasoning skills to challenging legal scenarios. Excellent communication and relationship skills are required. Professionalism and a healthy work ethic are highly valued. You will be efficient, effective and have a collaborative working style suited to a small, dynamic team.

We do not believe in presenteeism however flexibility to work longer hours around critical court dates will likely be required.

You will be working with a small, collaborative team of motivated, clever lawyers based in Sydney.

We are offering a 1 year contract for 4-5 days a week with an immediate start. An opportunity to extend the contract may become available. Salary will be commensurate with experience, conditions and quality of work.
