Energy management encompasses a wide range of practices and technologies including energy efficiency, demand management or load shifting, and demand response. Smart energy management makes our buildings healthier and more comfortable, our businesses more productive, and our energy system more affordable.

As part of the Council’s strategy, the organisation aims to:

  • Increase member, partner and stakeholder engagement;
  • Focus on thought leadership;
  • Support business decision making with trusted, impartial information on energy;
  • Increase time devoted to collaborating with partners on events; and
  • Inform and activate a network of advocates to take forward key planks of Council policy.

JOB PURPOSE

The purpose of this role is to lead the planning, coordination and effective delivery of the Council's established events program, which ranges in size, duration and complexity from small member breakfasts to the annual National Energy Efficiency Conference. The role also involves the development and delivery of new events initiatives, including the annual Australian Energy Leadership Awards which will launch in the second half of 2022. The Council’s events program is delivered as a combination of in-person and online events.

The Events Manager will be highly motivated, with a track record of demonstrating initiative, acting autonomously, and having a keen attention to detail. The Events Manager will have excellent interpersonal, analytical, and oral and written communication skills, and preferably have three-four (3-4) years of experience in planning, managing and delivering events of various scale and complexity.

Interest in and engagement with Australia’s energy or sustainability sectors, and experience in an industry association or member-based organisation will be considered favourably, however are not essential attributes.

KEY DUTIES

  • Management of end-to-end delivery of events program;
  • Established program includes a number of in-person and online events;
  • Flagship event: annual National Energy Efficiency Conference with Gala Dinner (350-400PAX across two days);
  • Partner Event with Reed Exhibitions: Energy Efficiency Expo (conference and exhibition);
  • Up to two National Energy Efficiency Forums (120PAX - Melbourne and Sydney);
  • Up to two Executive Advisory Group dinners (40PAX – Melbourne and Sydney);
  • Up to four Leaders’ Lunches (25PAX - capital cities);
  • Online annual National Summit with key partners; and
  • Supporting ad hoc webinars for policy and project launches and other topics.
  • Development, planning and delivery of a new annual event: the Australian Energy Leadership Awards (AELA);
  • Working with executive team and partners to design and deliver new events and bespoke engagement opportunities; and
  • Securing sponsorship that supports the delivery of the program and maximises revenue and net contribution from the Council’s events activities.

The Council is a small and flexible organisation. The successful candidate will be required to work on a range of cross-organisational projects, on an ad hoc basis, in collaboration with colleagues and external stakeholders to meet the Council’s overall goals.

KEY EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS

Exact employment conditions will be negotiated based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.

  • 0.8 - 1.0FTE – thirty point four (30.4) to thirty-eight (38) hours per week;
  • $90,000 – $95,000 per annum including superannuation, pro-rated to FTE;
  • Some out-of-hours work required, as well as occasional interstate travel;
  • Preference for a Melbourne-based candidate, with other candidates considered; and
  • Flexible work arrangements.
