About the Opportunity

CRDVS now has a rewarding opportunity for a full-time Senior Practitioner to join their team in their Mareeba office.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, your main responsibility will be to provide day-to-day supervision and support to direct client service workers in both the Mareeba and Atherton offices as well as assist with the development and maintenance client programmes of the CRDVS as part of the CRDVS Senior Management Team.

Your day to day duties will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Providing effective crisis intervention, counselling and court support services to victims of domestic & family violence through supervision of the Mareeba and Atherton team;
  • Coordinating the services provided by the Mareeba and Atherton teams;
  • Advocating for clients and developing and maintaining links and networks with other organisations to provide effective services and improve coordination of appropriate responses to domestic and family violence;
  • Assisting in enhancing greater community awareness of domestic and family violence and the effects it has on women and children by participating in community education as required by the CEO or CRDVS Board; and
  • Maintaining knowledge of current and emerging trends and practices concerning domestic and family violence and the delivery of domestic and family violence services and programs to inform appropriate service delivery to meet identified organisational and community needs.

About You

To be successful, you will need to have a degree level tertiary qualifications in the social or behavioural sciences (e.g. Psychology, Social Work, Community Welfare) or a related discipline and demonstrated experience with working in staff supervision.

You will have demonstrated experience of and a high level of skills in counselling interventions and support to adults.

To be successful in this position you will also need to be able to demonstrate sound knowledge of legislation impacting on situations of domestic and family violence.

You will be an enthusiastic and heavily engaged individual with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills to enable you to work cooperatively within a team and to liaise with government and non-government agencies to advocate on behalf of clients. Also required are computer literacy skills, including Microsoft Office applications.

About the Organisation

Cairns Regional Domestic Violence Service Inc. (CRDVS) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to using its specialist knowledge and skills to prevent domestic and family violence in the community and to empower those affected by it.

Established in 1987, CRDVS has grown from a small team of volunteers to become one of the first four Regional Domestic Violence Services to receive funding from the Queensland government in 1992. Led by a Board and with 25 staff, the organisation provides a free, confidential and highly professional service for family members who are currently or who have experienced, domestic and family violence.

CRDVS is a child safe organisation and all children who come into contact with their services will be provided with a welcoming and safe service.

The service is staffed by a close-knit team of qualified professionals with experience in adult and child counselling, court support and training. Their vision is clear, and at the heart of everything they do:
