WAMS not only provides healthcare: it helps educate and support Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people in the community to care for their own health and improve their wellbeing, with many initiatives to help make healthy living more accessible. Their Healthy for Life program includes a market garden where clients and the community can have access to fresh fruit and vegetables grown on-site.
Services offered include public health, family health, sexual health, dental health, mental health and GP Clinical Services. The not-for-profit organisation also provides a diverse range of health programs, including drug and alcohol and limited health-related transport services to facilitate attendance at specialist and other appointments.
WAMS has also invested in state-of-the-art facilities that many urban locations lack. Staff and community members have access to a children's services area and a gymnasium, as well as a modern Chronic Diseases Building offering medical, optical, and dental care. This helps the community recieve leading care, without being forced to travel away from home.

WAMS now has opportunities for three full-time Registered Nurses working in remote New South Wales in the following healthcare sectors:
Reporting to the Clinic Manager, these positions are responsible for delivering a range of culturally appropriate health services within the WAMS Clinics and in the wider community.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Community outreach is a large part of how WAMS provides accessible healthcare, and your involvement in providing outreach services will mean a significant part of your week is spent out of the office, and visiting these communities.
This is relevant particularly to the Registered Nurse role in Brewarrina, which has access to a car for outreach travel.
Please note: To be eligible to these roles you must hold a current C class drivers licence and a working with children clearance and consent to a national police check prior to commencement.
To be successful in any of these positions, a relevant nursing qualification and APRHA registration is required.
A candidate with an NSW immunisation cert as well as COVID 19 immunisation certification is preferred. WAMS will support the right candidate in obtaining these.
To be successful in any of these positions, you will possess a sound understanding of Aboriginal health services and the service delivery issues facing these organisations. You will have demonstrated knowledge of clinical quality improvement in primary health care. Your knowledge of the health, social and emotional wellbeing needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, strong communication skills and personal drive will enable you to determine priorities, maintain attention to detail and meet deadlines in order to achieve great results for your community.
The Family Centred Primary Health Care Nurse role will suit someone with a passion for family health. For this role, midwifery and/or early childhood qualifications would be highly regarded, though not essential.
Experience working in a remote area and/or with an Aboriginal Medical Service will be highly regarded. Key to your success will be an understanding of the primary health care system and issues relevant to closing the gap in health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, including the ability to communicate and appropriately engage with Aboriginal clients.
The successful candidate will also have strong organisational skills and the ability to effectively manage priorities. You will have excellent report writing skills and have the ability to use (or learn) the Communicare system to capture client information. High-level interpersonal skills are also critical to this position, including the ability to effectively interact with a wide range of individuals.
