The Sunrise approach involves community people taking part in controlling their own health. Everything from financial management and governance, staff selection and service delivery priorities are directed by the organisation's Aboriginal Board and Community Health Committees.

Sunrise Health Service Aboriginal Corporation works in partnership with Northern Territory PHN (NT PHN), who provide support services to health professionals and organisation across the Northern Territory. NT PHN offers support and assistance to eligible nurses and allied health professionals who are relocating to the NT for the purposes of employment.

About the Opportunity

Sunrise Health Service Aboriginal Corporation has a rewarding opportunity for a Maternal Early Childhood Sustained Home-Visiting (MECSH) Program Social Worker to join their dedicated team. This position is based in Katherine but will provide services to nine communities (Bulman, Wugularr, Barunga, Manyalluluk, Mataranka, Jilkminggan, Minyerri, Urapunga & Ngukurr).

The primary purpose of this role is to provide support, advice and education to the nurses providing the MECSH program & to Remote Health Centre staff in an effort to support the delivery of prevention and early intervention programs with families. This includes providing culturally safe psychosocial support for the families enrolled in the program.

Some of your key responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Demonstrating a high standard of professional practice and leadership that incorporates best practice, education and research;
  • Providing evidence-based culturally appropriate interventions on individual, group and family levels;
  • Providing new or other perspectives, or other approaches, ideas or interventions that will assist the team to address families’ needs;
  • Facilitate links for Sunrise Health Service Aboriginal Corporation communities and health centre to specialist support services, including making appropriate referrals to other professionals where required; and
  • Other duties as required by your supervisor.

Please note: This position will require regular travel in a four-wheel drive to remote communities. You will require a manual license & be comfortable driving on remote roads.

About You

To be considered for this role, you must have tertiary qualifications in social work or eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)

You will have demonstrated experience in remote health and a commitment to undertake professional development and training requirements to work within the MECSH program.

Sunrise is seeking an individual who can display the initiative, discretion and cultural sensitivity needed to support and drive this important program. You will be comfortable living in a remote environment and working under Aboriginal management and control. The ability to build capacity of both staff and the community will be critical to your success in this role.

You will be a team player that supports others and helps their team to succeed in all areas.

The successful candidates must be willing to undergo a Working With Children Check or hold a current Ochre Card and have an unrestricted NT drivers licence.
