Marine Rescue NSW (MRNSW) is the State’s legislated marine rescue service, committed to the mission of saving lives on what is the busiest coastline and waterways in the country.

Boasting the largest and most advanced search and rescue fleet in Australasia, along with the most extensive marine VHF radio network, the 3,100 highly trained volunteers and staff in 45 strategically located units deliver this life-saving service 24/7/365.

The Headquarters staff at MRNSW provide a well-resourced and close-knit management and support team function for our volunteer units as well as government and community partners and stakeholders.

About the Opportunity

MRNSW now has a Senior Leadership opportunity for a Deputy Commissioner (Chief Operations Officer) to join their team based at Cronulla, NSW on a permanent, full-time basis.

Reporting to the Commissioner (Chief Executive Officer), you will be responsible for developing and implementing a range of strategies and projects to ensure the successful delivery of marine rescue services throughout NSW.

More specifically, as the head of the frontline operations' chain of command, you will be tasked with coordinating operational response and readiness for the entire service.

The strategies and projects you will directly lead encompass, but are not confined to:

  • Coordinating volunteer support, development, recruitment and retention concerning frontline members;
  • Overseeing the organisation's multi-million dollar fleet and communications upgrades;
  • Developing new training programs and resources;
  • Contributing to the review of State Rescue Board regulations and legislative requirements; and
  • Developing operational/management systems and processes to help achieve organisational objectives.
