Cairns Regional Domestic Violence Service Inc. (CRDVS) aims to use its specialist knowledge and skills to prevent domestic and family violence in the community and empower those affected by it.

How You'll Make a Difference:

Due to internal movement, we are now looking for a full-time Community Education and Intake Worker based in Cairns, QLD.

You will play a crucial role in delivering quality education and training programs to the community, professionals, and schools, while also providing intake, crisis counselling, and risk assessment services to those affected by domestic violence.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Developing, coordinating, and evaluating community education programs to raise awareness about domestic violence
  • Planning and facilitating training programs for professionals and community members
  • Providing crisis assistance, risk assessment, and safety planning for victims of domestic violence
  • Collaborating with government and non-government organisations to enhance service delivery
  • Participating in organisational development activities, including staff meetings and case management sessions
  • Providing crisis counselling, risk assessment, and safety planning for clients
  • Contributing to the Embedded DV Worker program in collaboration with the Queensland Police Service (QPS)
  • Leading and facilitating group work programs to meet client and organisational needs
  • Managing the organisation’s social media presence and publishing newsletters
  • Liaising with government and non-government organisations to build networks and enhance service delivery

This role also involves participating in community education and group work initiatives to raise awareness of the effects of domestic and family violence on children and young people.

What You'll Bring to the Team:

To qualify, you will need a degree in psychology, social work, community welfare, education, or a related field, along with a minimum of two years of experience in a relevant role. A Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training and a background in crisis counselling are desirable.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be essential:

  • Demonstrated experience in preparing and delivering education and training materials
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively within a team
  • Understanding of domestic violence issues, including cultural differences and needs
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly PowerPoint and Publisher

As our ideal candidate, you will be a genuine and warm individual capable of thinking on your feet and adapting to various situations. You will excel in group facilitation and be passionate about making a difference in the community.

Please Note: All applicants must hold (or obtain) a current C Class driver's licence, a Working With Children Card and a formal police criminal history check.
