Elder Rights Advocacy

About Us

Elder Rights Advocacy (ERA) is a statewide, Victorian non-profit organisation established in 1990. We are a member of the national Older Persons Advocacy Network (OPAN) delivering the National Aged Care Advocacy Program (NACAP).

Our advocacy, information, community education and elder abuse prevention covers all forms of care for older people, with a focus on Commonwealth-funded home care and residential care. We also deliver the Aged Care Navigator trial and the Community Visitors Scheme (CVS).

Our mission is to support older people’s right to quality care.

Our vision is a diverse, vibrant, multicultural community, where older people are respected, heard and well-informed, and can exercise their rights and responsibilities with confidence. Our values drive our work: Respect; Integrity; Collaboration; Inclusiveness; Empowerment; Responsiveness.

About the role

The Intake Advocate provides information, high quality screening and referrals as part of ERA’s Advocacy and Information service. This includes triaging callers to our Navigator Pilot Program and Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) where appropriate.

As the first point of contact with our service, you will need to quickly identify the client’s needs and provide them with up-to-date information or referral. This is a highly-skilled role, which balances knowledge of the aged care system (residential and home care) with an ability to communicate effectively, and with empathy, with a diverse range of people. This involves offering a response that is culturally and relationally safe, engaging and clear.

Please see the Position Description for the full list of key responsibilities.

About you

Your experience and knowledge of the aged care system (residential and/or home care) combined with your excellent communication skills means you can effectively assess a caller’s needs and direct them appropriately. You have an understanding of how aged care information and advocacy can assist older people and their families, and are experienced in providing individual support to people and their representatives involved in difficult and complex circumstances. You have a genuine interest in and commitment to working with older people in our community. You easily cultivate positive working relationships and thrive in a fast-paced, small team environment.

A position description is attached. For further information about the role contact Debra Nicholl, Advocacy Manager on 0418 372 243.
