About us:

Edgar’s Mission is a not for profit sanctuary for rescued farmed animals that seeks to create a humane and just world for humans and non-humans. Set on 153 peaceable acres situated just outside of Lancefield, the sanctuary is nestled in the tranquillity of the Macedon Ranges.

Edgar’s Mission rescues and provides sanctuary to farmed animals in need, currently providing lifelong love and care to over 430 rescued animals. Through education, outreach, advocacy, community enrichment and sanctuary tours, we encourage people to expand their circle of compassion to include all animals.

Key Criteria:

  • Significant Vet nursing or equivalent experience providing care and treatment of farmed animals. This would include plans, health checks, administering injections and medications, blood testing, testing faecal samples and more.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage/supervise and support team members in both husbandry and sanctuary tasks, and deliver constructive feedback where required, in a clear and concise manner.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a positive attitude towards advocating on behalf of farmed animals.

  • A flexible and proactive attitude with the ability to adapt to changing needs and priorities on a daily basis.

  • Excellent time management skills.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Plan the Animal health check schedule, and manage the implementation, including record keeping of animal husbandry tasks. This includes regular health checks of all animals, grooming, hoof and tusk trimming, vaccinations and more. Ensure the plan is carried out as scheduled with Ad-hoc tasks added as they arise.
  • Plan, implement, oversee and record special animal treatment and rehabilitation programs for special need animals, including briefing the Caregiver team, checking regularly to ensure requirements are being met, and tracking progress.
  • Administer/oversee the daily medications, including injections. Provide training in routine vaccinations and species-specific health care maintenance.
  • Identify, assess and treat health issues in a timely manner. Set up appropriate monitoring and follow-up including record updates.
  • Day to day management of the sanctuary team, including task assignment, time management and strict hygiene standard maintenance.
  • Effective, timely communication to both the Director and the team.
