We are currently looking for individuals to start the process to become a school volunteer. We know that students will need more support than ever when classes fully resume after the Covid-19 pandemic. Start your application today and be ready to support VCAL students and schools.
Vocational Mentoring Exchange has mentor roles available for volunteers who are keen to develop positive relationships with students in school settings, who are prepared to share their career journey and help students in undertaking their career journey.
As a mentor, you will be matched with a small group of students undertaking Vocational Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) programs. While a vocational work background is ideal, it is your experience in the workforce combined with your enthusiasm and desire to help students explore and make informed decisions to be better prepared for the workforce that will make you a good mentor.
In this role, you will develop a mutually cooperative and supportive relationship, focusing on life and vocational skills and tasks for up to 10 weeks in August- September and/or August to October for an hour or 2 each week.
Through guiding students through activities and engaging in discussion, VCAL students will explore:
Full training and support provided. The sessions are held during school hours with the class teacher in attendance.
An important part of the sessions will be mentors sharing their career paths with mentees. If you have a positive attitude towards young people, good communication skills, an understanding of the work environment and a desire to guide and to inspire the next generation of tradespeople, we would like to hear from you.
