While a vocational work background is ideal, it is your experience in the workforce combined with your enthusiasm and desire to help students explore and make informed decisions to be better prepared for the workforce that will make you a good mentor.

In this role, you will develop a mutually cooperative and supportive relationship, focusing on life and vocational skills and tasks for up to 10 weeks in Term 2 (April to June) and/or Term 3 (July to October) for an hour or 2 each week.

Through guiding students through activities and engaging in discussion, VCAL students will explore:

  • Career planning
  • Goal setting
  • Resume refinement
  • Strategies for personal networks
  • The importance of soft skills

Full training (at this stage delivered live online) and support provided.
The mentoring sessions are held during school hours with the class teacher in attendance.

An important part of the sessions will be mentors sharing their career paths with mentees. If you have a positive attitude towards young people, good communication skills, an understanding of the work environment and a desire to guide and to inspire the next generation of tradespeople, we would like to hear from you. Join us to make a difference to the lives of young people.
