About the role:

The Regional Manager – Community Development will provide regional management and support to the Community Development Coordinators across the East Arnhem region to ensure funding, regulatory and reporting requirements are met. This role will facilitate efficient functioning and linkages of community development programs and services including; Local Government Services, Commercial Services, Community Night Patrol, Aged Care and Disability Services, Youth, Sport and Recreation and Libraries and Childcare Services in communities.

This position will also support and oversee Council services in the Yirrkala community, with objectives in Technical, Infrastructure and Corporate and Governance Services. The role will support the community’s Local Authorities, build and maintain active links and partnerships with community members and other organisation, and to support community development in Yirrkala.

What you will do:

  • Provide regional management, support and guidance to Community Development Coordinators in East Arnhem Regional Council (EARC) communities and support continuous improvement of the Community Development team
  • Lead and manage community development programs and projects in the region
  • Ensure compliance of contract guidelines are adhered to
  • Ensure operational, funding and reporting requirements are met across all community development projects
  • Provide advice and recommendations to the Director – Community Development and Executive Team regarding strategic issues and opportunities for the development of the wider Community Development team in the region

To be successful in this role, you will possess the following:

  • Tertiary qualifications or substantial experience in community development and supporting effective local service delivery
  • Advanced oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with indigenous and non-indigenous people, including the ability to liaise effectively with a variety of stakeholders and constructively manage conflict
  • Ability to interpret financial information and manage external funding and reporting requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively mentor, develop, support and motivate staff
  • High level administration skills including the use of Microsoft Office software and an ability to quickly learn and work in digital workspaces
  • Demonstrated experience in maintaining a safe working environment and to ensure that all Workplace, Health and Safety regulations are adhered to
  • Must hold a current Manual C Class Driver’s Licence

It would be desirable if you also possessed:

  • Previous experience working or living within an Indigenous setting and ability to demonstrate a high level of cross cultural awareness in the workplace.
  • Awareness of issues affecting Indigenous people to ensure effective participation in a cross-cultural environment.

Note: The preferred applicant must be able to travel to remote communities on a regular basis via light aircraft and/or 4WD vehicle.

The preferred applicant will be required to undergo a Criminal History Check and obtain a Working with Children Clearance. Criminal history will not exclude an applicant unless it is relevant to the position.

What you'll get in return:

A full time permanent employment receiving a salary of $120,665.62 before superannuation contributions and locality allowance. You will also benefit from 6 weeks of annual leave with 17.5% leave loading. Housing will be provided in Yirrkala Community. Relocation and repatriation assistance will also be provided to the successful applicant.
