About DVCS

Diamond Valley Community Support (DVCS) is a not-for-profit charitable organisation that has been serving the local Diamond Valley community since 1972. DVCS services are free, confidential, impartial, and independent. We assist over 5,000 people experiencing financial and/or personal hardship each year, and we are supported by more than 100 volunteers and 6 staff. Our Services Include: Emergency Relief, Education Support, Financial Counselling, Personal Counselling, Legal Service, Tax Help, Volunteers Resource Hub, and a Public Internet Kiosk.

DVCS currently operates the Kingsbury Drive Community Market, Hurstbridge Market, Elder St Reserve market and the Macleod Market along with 2 other social enterprises, being the Diamond Creek Op Shop and Macleod Op Shop.

Our organisational focus is on Strengthening Our Community as an initiative that encompasses all DVCS programs and those groups we work with.

The Position

  • This is a part-time role, with equivalent hours of between 2-3 days per week, to be negotiated with preferred candidate. We are flexible with either part-time hours, 5 days per week, or full-time hours on some specific days.
  • Commencement date to be negotiated with preferred candidate.
  • Role is for a 6-month term, with the possibility of extension.
  • The duties of this position are set out in the relevant responsibilities below. You will be required to perform these duties, and any other duties the employer may assign to you, having regard to your skills, training, and experience.
  • You will be required to perform your duties at Shop 378a, Level 3, Greensborough Plaza, Greensborough 3088, or elsewhere as reasonably directed by the employer.
  • Employment is subject to a satisfactory CrimCheck Report and a current Working with Children Card is required.
  • Reporting to the Volunteer and Program Co-ordinator and the Executive Officer.

Conditions

  • All conditions are be based on SCHADS award level 3.1 and the relevant National Standards.

Key Responsibilities

Scope of works includes, but not limited to:

  • Advertise and liaise with the DVCS Volunteers Hub for new volunteers, and complete all supporting documentation related to appointment and onboarding of DVCS volunteers.
  • Manage the DVCS volunteer contact database.
  • Liaise with all volunteers on rosters and schedules and updating changes to those.
  • Support to The Food Collective Project by arranging volunteer delivery drivers, arranging food from partners/suppliers as well as helping to promote the collective in-line with DVCS strategies.
  • Complete reporting on statistics and impact of DVCS programs and services.
  • Keeping resources/tools up-to date. Some knowledge of the organisations and resources available within the community and social service sector would be an advantage.
  • Assisting with applications to other organisations (where needed) on behalf of clients.
  • Provide administration and operational support to our Xmas Gift appeals
  • Support to our Tax help team by coordinating the volunteers.
  • Create booking sheets and information flyers for our various programs.
  • Administration support on training and resource materials.
  • Support to the volunteer and program coordinator on any program and volunteer related items as required.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Formal qualifications or work experience within the community and social service sector would be an advantage.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Strong communication skills including sound empathic listening skills, excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to write accurate and succinct notes.
  • Competent computer literacy and experience with general office suites.
  • Possess empathy and a non-judgmental attitude.
  • Demonstrated desire to assist vulnerable and disadvantaged members of our community.
  • Working with an organisation that provides a wide range of services and liaising with a broad range of partners.
  • Experience in an organisation that provides material aid and working with suppliers/donors of that material aid.
  • Experience volunteering with an organisation would be desirable.
  • Experience in working with volunteers.
  • Experience in project support and planning.
  • Able to work effectively with people from various socio-economic levels and cultural backgrounds.
  • Able to work well within a team environment.
