Your New Role

As a result of internal movements we have a wonderful opportunity for someone to take on the Team Leader role of our specialist counselling service. This team provides specialist trauma counselling to those people impacted by DFV and Sexual Assault across the country, as part of the national 1800RESPECT program. We work in partnership with Medibank Health Solutions (MHS) who operate the service and also other partner DV services in other states, to collectively deliver the specialist counselling.

Your role will be to lead, coach and mentor a team of Specialist Counsellors in the delivery of high-quality client services, whilst providing exceptional support to the staff. This role works very closely with one other Team Leader (who is very experienced in the role) and our Service Delivery Manager, to ensure a seamless level of support, development and guidance for our team. In addition, the role is part of a wider leadership team, that is delivering a variety of programs and the opportunity will also be available to contribute more broadly across the organisation.

You will:

  • Be the first point of contact for Specialist Counsellors on all operational shift matters
  • Provide supervision/debriefing to on-shift Specialist Counsellors
  • Conduct monthly call coaching/mentoring for all staff
  • Complete monthly reviews of call data to inform practice improvements
  • Complete quality audits fortnightly for each Specialist Counsellors
  • At times, the role will be required to assist in providing highly specialised phone counselling services to callers who have been impacted by domestic, family and sexual violence
  • Key contact at times with other DV partner services and MHS

This is a 24/7 service and as such, this role will require applicants to be able to fill a variety of shifts Monday-Sunday and will share on-call responsibilities.

What you need to Succeed (Selection Criteria)

  • 4+ years specialist trauma counselling experience (preferably telephone counselling)
  • Minimum 3 year tertiary qualification in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work or a related field
  • Eligible for membership with a governing body of profession with either AASW, APS, ACA or PCFA
  • Demonstrated capacity to supervise, develop, engage, retain and support staff in a way which ensures consistency of service delivery and enhancement of both practical skills and professional knowledge
  • Experience and understanding of issues relating to service delivery with an agency that is committed to socially and culturally inclusive practices
  • Understanding of federal and state-based legislation including child protection legislation relevant to service delivery
  • Well developed interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Effective time management which support quality service delivery
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a complex work environment, maintain a calm and supportive disposition and good self-care practices in place
  • Demonstrate initiative and ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Positive, friendly and flexible approach
  • Solid IT skills and ability to master new systems quickly
  • Right to Work in Australia
  • Current Working with Children Checks or capacity to obtain (QLD, NT, WA, SA) will be required and managed by DVConnect
  • Willingness to work a variety of shifts outside of business hours to meet operational needs on occasions
