DVConnect delivers a range of services including the state-wide crisis response service that operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week, to meet the safety needs of those living with domestic and family violence anywhere in Queensland. We also provide specialist therapeutic interventions/ counselling support (phone and web based) across Australia, within the national 1800RESPECT program.

Your New Role

We currently have exciting opportunities for experienced trauma practitioners for our 1800RESPECT program, providing specialist counselling services to people impacted by domestic and family violence and/or sexual assault. The role works within a national framework and requires the highest level of professionalism, ethical behaviour and compassion. You will be joining a team of highly experienced and supportive practitioners that provide amazing support and make a difference every day in the lives of so many. As this is a 24/7 service we are currently seeking to fill a variety of shifts - specifically evening; some overnights and a few day shifts are available.

The role will have you:

  • Providing appropriate trauma telephone counselling to clients of the 1800RESEPCT line
  • Supporting our clients in managing risks and providing appropriate referrals
  • Meeting statutory obligations as mandatory reporters in cases of children at risk of harm
  • Using a range of computer and online programs in updating case notes and entering other statistical data
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the mission, vision and values of DVConnect

There is the opportunity for flexibility with the number of shifts you work each fortnight (from 2 to 8 shifts) as a casual across a 24/7 roster. We also expect the positions to move to temporary part time roles, with set rosters in January 2021.

What You Need to Succeed

You will need a minimum of 3 years specialist counselling experience (phone counselling desirable) supporting clients who have been impacted by domestic, family and/or sexual violence.

Other essential requirements include:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Counselling, Social Work, Psychology or related discipline
  • Eligible for membership with governing body of profession - AASW, APS, ACA, PACFA
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a challenging and demanding (although rewarding) work environment
  • Commitment to a 24/7 service and willingness to work a variety of shifts, including overnights if required
  • Ability to attend 10 days initial training over 2-3 weeks
  • Strong team work; flexible, adaptable and positive approach
