PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

drummond street is seeking a range of highly skilled and experienced Therapeutic Family Violence Specialists  to join our team, implementing a range of innovative programs to engage and connect young people, cis-gendered women, trans and gender diverse people who have enacted harm or family violence in individually tailored interventions and groups. Using an approach that is therapeutic, trauma informed and a queer gendered approach to family violence, the Therapeutic Family Violence Specialists work in an integrated service response to provide intake, ongoing individual, family, risk and safety assessments, therapeutic case planning, management and review, warm referrals to appropriate local services and relevant interventions for both those whom have enacted harm and those that have been harmed. We are recruiting qualified and experienced staff to be part of the implementation of three programs across the north and west of metropolitan Melbourne:

  • Living Free From Violence – supporting women, trans and gender diverse people who have enacted harm or family violence, within Dame Phyllis Frost Centre
  • Futures Free From Violence - supporting women, trans and gender diverse people who have enacted harm or family violence, in community settings
  • Youth and Family Violence Service - supporting young people who have enacted harm or family violence, in community settings

ROLE

You will be responsible for:

  • Using a therapeutic trauma informed model shaped by a queer feminist gendered approach to family violence, provide ongoing individual, family, risk and safety assessments, therapeutic case planning, management and review, warm referrals to appropriate local services and relevant interventions for people who have enacted harm (young people or non-cis male people) and for other family members including children.
  • Work in an integrated service response model with other members of the team, promoting and exploring safety which underpins all interventions.
  • Liaise with internal and external services to maintain relevant links and networks to strengthen services for those who have enacted harm (young people or non-cis male people) and for other family members
  • Provision of centre based and outreach services as appropriate
  • Co-facilitate Group Work Programs for people who have enacted harm, applying sound theoretical and practical expertise in working with young people, women, trans and gender diverse people who have used family violence, addressing accountability and behavioural change in the context of participant’s own histories

ESSENTIAL/ DESIRABLE CRITERIA

  • Minimum Degree level qualification in social work, welfare or the equivalent.
  • Demonstrated Specialist Case Management and Counselling experience in providing trauma informed therapeutic counselling and support to people both enacting harm and responding to harm.
  • Demonstrated understanding of a gendered analysis of family and intimate partner violence and the limitations and challenges it offers when working with young people, women, trans and gender diverse people who are enacting harm
  • Demonstrated experience in delivery of group programs to people who have enacted harm
  • Demonstrated understanding of the needs, issues and sensitivities of people from diverse backgrounds including Aboriginal, LGBTIQ and culturally and linguistically diverse people and communities.
  • Demonstrated experience of working with families with complex needs such as family violence, drug and alcohol and mental health issues
  • Demonstrated capacity to work within integrated, collaborative and systemic approaches
