About the Opportunity

drummond street has a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Child and Family Practitioner to join their Family Services, primarily working across our Collingwood, Coburg and Carlton sites (full time until June 2024 with the option of extension dependent on funding).

drummond street deliver early intervention case work, counselling and group supports to vulnerable families with children and young people who are showing early signs of, or are at risk of developing, mental illness. We use a developmental and whole of family, family life course approach – supporting children, young people and their families through key vulnerable transitions (pregnancy, infancy, childhood, adolescence - and adverse life events) with a focus on early in life. We provide interventions across the spectrum of promotion, prevention, early intervention and recovery interventions. We target risk and protective factors for wellbeing in domains of individuals, families, community and society.

Our services are open to all children, young people and families but assertively engage those experiencing marginalisation and/or discrimination, prioritising First Nations people, people of colour, people with disability and/or those identifying as LGBTQI+, with a specific focus on public housing residents. 

This rewarding role provides an excellent opportunity to utilise your experience in relationship counselling directly with couples and families, as well as providing supervision and coaching to team members.

About You

As the Senior Practitioner you will have leadership responsibilities for Family Services, working with other organisational leaders to guide and inspire staff. You will ensure our service model remains unique and innovative; that our programs are co-designed and respond to local families; and we meet our contractual requirements. Your leadership responsibilities also involve building partnerships, stakeholder management, leadership and management of a team to plan, deliver, promote, evaluate our co-design strategies, engagement programs, case work, counselling and group supports. You will contribute leadership to drummond street’s efforts to realise a family space on the Collingwood Housing Estate. 

drummond street is looking for a driven leader with a background in working with families regarding child mental health. Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Family Therapy, Case Work, Counselling, Psychology or similar will be essential for your success.  Experience in relationship counselling is integral to this role, as well as confidence in seminar or group facilitation.

Due to the nature of the role, it’s important you are well versed in managing your time across a variety of responsibilities, encompassing both practice delivery and supervision. You’ll also be skilled in adapting to different environments, ensuring your ability to meet the needs of individual practitioners while also keeping in mind the developmental needs of the team and organisation as a whole.

Acting as a mentor for your team, you'll motivate Practitioners to perform to the highest standard while providing them with the support needed to flourish in their roles. Your capacity to inspire and engage staff in completing complex work will ensure your success, as well as that of the team.
