The Prison Disability Support Initiative (PDSI) is a new service that will better support the rehabilitation of prisoners with disability and complex needs and their transition back into the community.

As a senior clinician leading our multi-disciplinary team, you will have a unique opportunity to establish a best practice initiative and drive its future success across Victoria.

We are currently seeking senior clinicians for the following location: Lara and Greater Geelong (based at Barwon Prison and/or Marngoneet and Karreenga Correctional Centres).

A day in the life of a PDSI senior clinician

By leading your team in delivering newly established programs and services, you will help shape the future of forensic intervention for disability and complex needs within corrections. You will also:

  • Focus on assessment, treatment and transition planning for complex needs such as cognitive impairment and psycho-social disability.
  • Lead and develop a multi-disciplinary team including case workers, case managers and activity coordinators.
  • Guide support and training for custodial staff in the areas of disability and complex needs.
  • Supervise risk assessments and group-based programs using evidence-based tools.
  • Target criminogenic needs and underlying thinking patterns.
  • Coordinate service planning for community and prison-based treatment.
  • Help determine treatment pathways and prepare plans and reports.
  • Contribute to research and education programs.
  • Drive the success of the PDSI program in consultation with the manager and senior project officer.

As part of our team, you will provide support to both metro and regional correctional facilities which will involve some travel to regional Victoria.

Eligibility

To apply, you’ll need to hold (or be eligible for) one of the following:

  • General registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia.
  • Membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
  • Be registered as a nurse and be eligible to be credentialed as a Mental Health Nurse.
  • Be registered as an Occupational Therapist with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia.

Successful candidates will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include national police checks and misconduct screening. You will also need to possess a current Victorian driver’s licence.
