Our work in Forensic Intervention Services (FIS) starts with the belief that every person has the capacity to change and deserves the opportunity to make that change. By building connections with people who have based on trust, professionalism, and empathy, we enable people who have committed violent and sexual offences to address their behaviour and develop insights that lead to better choices and a more constructive role in the community at the end of their order or sentence. 

Led by highly respected leaders with a clear vision, we are transforming the way clinical forensic intervention is delivered in Australia and are fast gaining national and international recognition.

We are in a period of exciting growth with a number of new clinical opportunities. Right now, we are looking for Senior Clinicians to build first-rate teams and who want to focus on clinical practice - without responsibility for the ‘line management’ of their teams. Opportunities are available in:

  • Metro Melbourne
  • Lara and Greater Geelong (based at Barwon Prison and/or Marngoneet and Karreenga Correctional Centres)
  • Loddon Mallee (based at Loddon and Middleton Prison) 
  • Grampians (based at Hopkins Correctional Centre and/or Langi Kal Kal Prison)

How we work

We work as a multifaceted team combining skills from a variety of disciplines including psychology, social work, occupational therapy and mental health nursing.

Our work is fast paced. On any given day, our senior clinicians:

  • Deliver advanced clinical services employing evidence-based assessment tools and treatment interventions such as Cognitive and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Schema Therapy and Trauma Informed Care.
  • Work within the Risk-Needs-Responsivity model
  • Lead and develop multi-disciplinary teams
  • Drive awareness and education in empirically informed best practice.

As well as building your own clinical leadership skills, you will be contributing to the development of world class correctional programming.

Who we’re looking for

If making our community safer draws on your values and is important to you, this work puts you right on the front line.

We’re looking for people with an optimism for change and the belief that the people we work with deserve our help to make that change.

The work can be confronting so you’ll need resilience – which we can help you build – as well as empathy, self-assurance, and an ability to relate to people from all walks of life no matter their past behaviour or background.

Eligibility

To apply, you’ll need to hold (or be eligible for) one of the following:

  • General registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia
  • Membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
  • Be registered as a nurse and be eligible to be credentialed as a Mental Health Nurse
  • Be registered as an Occupational Therapist with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia
  • Specialist training and/or postgraduate qualifications in a clinical or forensic field
  • Psychology Board of Australia Approved Supervisor status is desirable.

Successful candidates will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include national police checks and misconduct screening. You will also need to possess a current Victorian driver’s licence.
