Dohertys Creek P-9 College are looking for an enthusiastic, innovating and energetic Community Liaison Officer to establish and co-ordinate our Community Hub.

As our Community Liaison Officer, your role will be to build relationships with the local community, school and local services. Working in partnership with the school, your support agency and local service providers you will be responsible for coordinating a range of activities to support the community at the hub.

The establishment of the community Hub will strengthen these partnerships and established stronger links with the broader school community. As our Community Liaison Officer, you will be responsible for:

  • Creating a welcoming environment which encourages parents and their children to engage and become active in the hub.
  • Building relationships with parents and the local community to help them discover their strengths, aspirations and needs.
  • Plan activities in partnership with local service providers which align with the program outcomes framework. For example, setting up English language programs and playgroups. Planned activities will be informed by your consultations community members.
  • Supporting families to increase their knowledge of child development, parenting, and settlement support by providing information sessions/programs at the hub. These should include skill development and capacity building activities.
  • Building strong relationships within the school and supporting the school to be able to develop family participation in early years and school readiness programs as well as the schools ability to support and respond to family needs.
  • Advocate to local services on family needs and work in partnership with these organisations to make referrals or tailor programs that are delivered out of the school.
  • Participate in hub leader meetings and professional development opportunities in your local government area.
  • Complete regular reports and share lessons and case studies with your support agency/Community Hubs Australia.
  • Participate and support evaluations of the program

Key Selection Criteria

  1. Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to create positive relationships with families.
  2. Experience working on people centric community development projects that support the community and builds their capacity and skill level.
  3. Knowledge and/or experience working with families from diverse backgrounds especially culturally and linguistically diverse families, recently arrived and refugee families.
  4. Strong networking skills and experience developing partnerships with other agencies to work together on a shared goal.
  5. Demonstrated capacity to work both independently and as part of a team, including well-developed planning, time management and organisational skills.
  6. Well-developed oral communication skills, as well as sound written and report writing skills.
