The organisation:

Documentary Australia is a not-for-profit organisation enabling social impact documentaries to be funded and screened to inspire social change. We place documentary stories at the heart of social impact campaigns, surrounding films with a coalition of partners to engage broad audiences in social change initiatives.

Primary objective(s):

The Impact Director is responsible for the organisational impact of Documentary Australia, working closely with the CEO and Evaluation Director to develop and deliver high level organisational and impact strategies, programs and relationships with key stakeholders. This role is suited to someone with high level strategic experience across a range of different issue areas, who has experience developing long term partnerships with philanthropic, NGO and advocacy stakeholders and experience managing complex projects.

Organisational and program impact – development, management and evaluation

• Identify documentaries with potential for strategic impact and audience engagement campaigns.
• Work with Evaluation Director to deliver impact strategies and filmmaker support programs across impact, partnerships and evaluation, using the Documentary Australia impact & evaluation framework.
• Identifying donors and impact partners for the films and tailoring cases of support for different audiences.
• Develop and manage educational resources and case studies for filmmakers and impact partners, through workshops and online learning platform Workplace.
• Deliver training and support through Documentary Australia’s Impact Fellowship and Accelerating Environmental Impact programs, including:
  • Advising Senior Impact Producer and film teams on impact strategy and evaluation, implementation and budgets.
  • Overseeing and advise on implementation of impact campaigns for specific, Documentary Australia films and programs.
  • Supporting and mentoring Impact Producers working on films across the programs.
  • Supporting impact and film teams to use the Documentary Australia evaluation framework to report on their impact.

Stakeholder engagement and management

• Supporting CEO with relationship development and management with impact and industry partners, including:
  • Identifying and engaging new partners
  • Showcasing Documentary Australia’s work and role to industry and partners
  • Advocating for documentary
• Develop events to engage donors, impact partners and filmmakers, with the Senior Impact Producer.
• Communications support for Documentary Australia team for content around our impact work.
