About us

The Victims of Crime Commissioner promotes the recognition of victims of crime in the justice system by:

  • investigating complaints made by victims about their treatment by justice agencies and victims' services
  • conducting inquiries into systemic issues that affect victims of crime
  • representing the concerns of victims in the decision-making forums of government
  • providing advice to the Attorney-General, and government departments and agencies, about improvements to the justice system to meet the needs of victims of crime.

A key component of the Commissioner's role is monitoring the compliance of justice agencies and victims' services with the principles in the Victims' Charter Act 2006 (the Victims' Charter).

About the role

The Senior Inclusion and Engagement Lead (Lead) works within the Engagement team of the Victims of Crime Commissioner's Office and reports to the Manager, Strategic Engagement.

The Lead will help us to build our aptitude to engage with a range of communities so the Commissioner can use her role to make sure that anyone can get help and justice when they are a victim of crime.

The Lead works directly with victims of crime to deliver culturally safe, ethical and trauma-informed engagement initiatives that support the Commissioner's systemic inquiries, policy, practice and law reform positions, strategy development and the implementation of discrete projects. This includes facilitating interviews, focus groups and other engagement activities with victims of crime, and stakeholders that include justice and victims' services agencies.

The Lead will either have lived experience of intersectional disadvantage and barriers to services and support, or extensive experience working with victims of crime or people who have experienced trauma. They will be highly relational and passionate about creating meaningful connections to support improvements in the justice and victim service systems.

About you

As the Senior Inclusion and Engagement Lead, you will have:

  • deep understanding of the issues facing victims of crime or people experiencing trauma. This includes people who experience marginalisation and systemic barriers in Victoria and a demonstrated commitment to justice for those communities
  • demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with and within diverse communities, and with people who have experienced significant trauma
  • demonstrated ability to build and manage relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, often across complex environments
  • experience in in approaches to consultation and engagement with people who experienced trauma
