The Role:

The Safer and Stronger Communities Pilot is funded by the Victorian Government to develop and test strategies that prevent family violence in communities from migrant, asylum seeker and refugee backgrounds.

The project is focused on developing and enhancing strong local partnerships with a focus on building prevention expertise and cross-cultural capacity. Implementing a co-design framework, primary prevention initiatives will be tailored to the needs of communities from a migrant, refugee and asylum seeker background. In particular, initiatives will seek to address attitudes, beliefs and behaviours that lead to family violence, including gendered drivers and reinforcing factors. The project takes an intersectional approach, recognising the overlapping forms of discrimination and marginalisation that can occur and work across a range of settings.

About You:

To be successful in obtaining the Family Violence Prevention project worker role, you will need to be able to demonstrate that you have a good understanding of intersectionality and the capacity to apply an intersectional framework to gender equity and the prevention of violence against women. You will possess excellent community engagement and capacity building skills and have expertise in working with communities from a refugee, asylum seeker and migrant background. Expertise in co-designing and delivering creative programs with diverse communities is also required and a sound knowledge of services in the Geelong region will be well regarded.

The position is a maximum term part time position (22.5 hours per week) for 6 months.

The successful applicant will be required to undertake a police check, working with children check and a disability worker exclusions check as part of the offer of employment.
