ABOUT THE ROLE

The Administration Support Officer will support the person, John, who has a physical disability & is an electric wheelchair user with a variety of tasks. This ranges from home-based administration duties to attending meetings off-site.

The primary goal of the Administration Support Officer is to maximise John’s independence in all areas including his employment which will involve performing personal care tasks throughout the day.

John has over 60 years of living experience with a physical disability & is a professional empowerment advocate.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Complete duties that may or may not be supervised that support John to complete his work. Duties can include supporting John to:

  • Travel to appointments and to the workplace safely and efficiently
  • Complete communication processes such as phone calls, emails & general correspondence
  • Attend employment related meetings and appointments
  • Move around workplace locations safely
  • Use any relevant physical or communication aids
  • Use internet and other resources to conduct research tasks that may involve a basic written summary

Personal Enablement

Undertake tasks that enable John to function daily. This includes, but is not limited to, assisting the John to;

  • Go to the toilet
  • Eat and drink, including the preparation of food and drink for the PWD.
  • Use equipment that assists John with mobility such as wheelchairs
  • Support John during travel to appointments

General Responsibilities

  • Maintain and enhance John’s dignity, integrity, rights and confidentiality as well as that of his household.
  • Enable John to participate fully in interests and relationships during any shift
  • Maintaining a safe living environment by minimising or removing safety risks or hazards.
  • Take reasonable care to ensure an environment of safety for John and staff, ensuring any concerns are raised with the relevant person as required
  • It is expected that the person in this role will work unsupervised at times as per the John’s direction.
  • It is also understood that John & the successful applicant will regularly provide feedback to each other & make adjustments as necessary.

REQUIRED ATTRIBUTES OF THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

  • Understanding that John will instruct how he would like tasks to be completed.
  • Communicate effectively and able to workshop tasks collaboratively with John.
  • Has sound understanding of information technology and the ability to learn different programs and applications.
  • Understands confidentiality & privacy when working with John.
  • Be creative and prepared to have a laugh.
