  • Location: Alice Springs
  • Full Time Maximum Term Position (12 months) with strong possibility of extension

Desert Support Services Pty Ltd (DSS) provides a range of services geared towards supporting Aboriginal Corporations to achieve a sustainable and independent future, focusing on building capacity by empowering local and regional decision making.

We are committed to achieving the best outcomes for the Traditional Owners of the Central Desert region of Western Australia and to assisting our clients to use their traditional lands to fulfil their highest social, cultural and economic aspirations.

This role is an exceptional opportunity to provide leadership and coordination to the Kiwirrkurra Men’s Ranger Team. Working closely with the Kiwirrkurra Indigenous Protected Area (IPA) Coordinator, the role will support a range of Indigenous land management activities on Kiwirrkurra country and beyond.

The Kiwirrkurra IPA and Ranger Team is a high achieving program with established partnerships, funding and projects. These are exceptional opportunities led by strong traditional owners.

The successful person will:

  • Be a dynamic team player;
  • Have facilitation and multi-tasking skills;
  • Work effectively with Aboriginal people to achieve shared goals;
  • Show appropriate initiative and work productively with limited supervision;
  • Have experience in working alongside traditional owner ranger groups; and
  • Have excellent practical, problem solving, organisational, writing and interpersonal communication skills.

The successful person will be based in our Alice Springs office and must be available to travel to remote desert communities. The position will require approximately two weeks per month field time throughout the field season.

Whilst this position is maximum term for 12 months, there is a high possibility of a long-term role for the right person.

We are recruiting a male for this position as a genuine occupational requirement under Section 27 of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA).

An attractive salary package with significant benefits including 4 weeks’ annual leave, paid Christmas shutdown, relocation assistance, leave loading, regional allowance and salary sacrifice will be offered to the successful candidate.
