The CRE Community Co-ordinator will specialise in designing, implementing and monitoring primary prevention of family violence and violence against women initiatives within and across various settings. They will work to build the skills and capacities of people in diverse sectors and settings, from sports clubs, to schools, workplaces, local government, health services, community groups and the media, to embed prevention of family violence and gender equality efforts informed by the CRE strategic action plan.

The position will work collaboratively with CRE reference group members and key partners who are implementing direct participation programs and key elements of the CRE strategic action plan. Operational supervision and support will be provided by Desert Blue Connect including specialist family violence knowledge, practice and prevention of family violence theory concepts. The CRE strategic action plan and priorities as per the logic model will be articulated within a work plan, guided by tasks and informed by Desert Blue Connect, in consultation with the CRE reference group and key partners. The position is based in Geraldton at Desert Blue Connect main office. Desert Blue Connect provides quality oversight, expertise and capacity to the role and has the responsibility for the funding of the position.

This role will require the successful applicant to facilitate and manage a number of teams towards common goals. As such you will need to be flexible and innovative, capable of juggling a number of competing priorities and able to work with a diverse group of organisations and individuals.

Essential skills and qualifications include:

  1. Relevant tertiary qualifications in health/social sciences/project management or equivalent experience
  2. Understanding of community development principles
  3. Previous project management experience including grant writing and acquittal
  4. Demonstrated ability to work in a team and independently
  5. Demonstrated ability in building networks and engaging community stakeholders
  6. Excellent communication skills and facilitation skills
  7. Strong organisational and time management skills
  8. Ability to work after hours including early evening and weekends occasionally
  9. Ability to travel within the Midwest

Desirable:

  1. Comprehensive understanding of gender equity and the determinants of violence against women
  2. Experience working in the area of family and domestic violence intervention or prevention
  3. Understanding of family and domestic violence at risk groups and communities

This is a 12 month contract with the possibility of extending.
