The Marine Science Program aims to ensure the department's marine biodiversity conservation and management programs are based on best practice science. The program promotes and undertakes marine research and monitoring to improve the scientific basis for the conservation and management of Western Australia's state-wide system of marine protected areas, threatened marine fauna and marine biodiversity generally. Marine research and monitoring are based around the strategies identified in protected area management plans and threatened species recovery/management plans.

This position strategically plans, develops and implements conservation initiatives including those to mitigate and/or manage major pressures (e.g. artificial light, feral animals, marine debris and climate change) on flatback turtles in Western Australia. In addition, this position facilitates the exchange of knowledge and information for use in decision making; assesses and measures effectiveness of different conservations strategies; implements actions to achieve outcomes and maintains strategic partnerships in DBCA and with external stakeholders..

A tertiary degree in marine science, environmental management, science communication or relevant discipline is essential for this role. To be a strong candidate, you must have well-developed expertise and substantial experience in managing knowledge exchange in conservation programs.

In accordance with relevant legislation and departmental policy, the successful applicant will be required to possess or obtain a current Working With Children Check prior to commencement.
