EXCITING PROJECT MANAGEMENT ROLE

The Deerubbin Local Aboriginal Land Council is seeking a Project Manager committed to ensuring a better future for the local Aboriginal people by working to achieve social, cultural, economic and environmental aspirations of the Land Council.

The Project Manager will be responsible for providing intrinsic support to the CEO to ensure that the statutory functions of the NSW Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 (ALRA) are met. This will include the management of day-to-day operations and administration as required by the DLALC. The Project Manager will work independently and will lead a team to work towards successfully managing and undertaking the requirements of the DLALC Community Land and Business Plan. This role will include developing and maintaining strong, respectful relationships with current and emerging partners to ensure the continuation of current DLALC programs and identify and deliver new opportunities.

Governance training on the NSW Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 will be provided if necessary.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential:

  • Demonstrated experience (lived and professional) and knowledge of the cultural, social, economic and environmental needs of Aboriginal peoples and their communities. Additionally, a demonstrated understanding of the current and emerging needs of the Aboriginal community within the DLALC boundaries.
  • Demonstrated high level of management and leadership skills with the ability to coordinate diverse functions and people to achieve organisational outcomes.
  • Experience engaging a wide range of stakeholders, including but not limited to Aboriginal communities, government agencies, and developers to achieve organisational outcomes.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including the capacity to negotiate and mediate.
  • Organisational and management experience to effectively lead, direct and manage the DLALC, including the ability to prepare and facilitate management/members meetings.
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
  • The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of Equal Employment Opportunity; Work, Health and Safety requirements; and will need to either hold or successfully apply for a NSW Working with Children Check.
  • Current NSW Driver’s License.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a complex political environment subject to legislative and reporting requirements, including but not limited to the Aboriginal Land Rights Act and Regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, structuring and monitoring financial budgets and investment accounts.
  • Demonstrated understanding of land negotiation and management of DLALC’s land assets.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications.
  • Previous working experience working with Aboriginal community-controlled organisations or Not-For-profit organisations.
  • A willingness to travel and undertake further training when required.
