The Institute for Mental and Physical Health and Clinical Treatment (iMPACT) sits within the Faculty of Health and is based in Geelong. This job, however, can be done entirely on a work from home basis. We are currently seeking an Associate Research Fellow to join a team of clinical researchers and help make a difference to the wellbeing of people affected by mental health problems. This role will give you the opportunity to apply your exceptional writing and psychotherapy skills to develop novel psychosocial interventions. The team is led by an experienced clinical psychologist and psychiatrist, and you will be work with international experts in the field.

Your key responsibilities will include, and not be limited to:

  • Writing content for psychological interventions, research grant applications and journal articles.
  • Assisting with research projects, collaborations and partnerships to develop and evaluate psychosocial interventions.
  • Overseeing digital development via collaboration with web/app/eLearn developers.
  • Helping to train and supervise research assistants who are part of the team working on these projects.
  • Prepare findings/results for oral and written communication, produce or contribute to the production of conference and seminar papers.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Recognised qualification as a psychologist (registered with APHRA or recently graduated and close to registration)
  • Proven ability to write high-quality content for clients affected by mental health problems.
  • Strong clinical skills as a psychologist and familiarity with adapting a number of psychotherapy approaches to clients, such as at least two of the following: CBT, behavioural activation, psychoeducation, motivational interviewing, DBT, ACT, MBCT, interpersonal therapy/IPSRT, solution focussed therapy or wellbeing therapy.
  • Ability to conduct both individual and group therapy, and use clinical judgement and established study protocols to manage risk and adverse events.
  • Research experience and skills that are sufficient to take an active role in helping to run a clinical trial and supervise research assistants.
  • Experience in writing and developing face-to-face or online psychosocial programs would be highly desirable.
