The Dandenong & District Aborigines Co-operative Ltd (DDACL) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO) which is governed by a community elected Board of Directors. DDACL’s Corporate Services Unit provides the support functions and technical guidance in specialist areas including Governance, Quality and Accreditation, Finance, HR, Infrastructure (properties, buildings and utilities), and Communications & Marketing to ensure that DDACL operates effectively and efficiently and can respond to the changing external and internal environment.

Summary of Position:

The position sits within the DDACL Corporate Services Unit reporting to the Senior Financial Accountant and works closely with the CEO and Manager Corporate Services.

The Accountant is responsible for coordinating the centralised day to day financial transactions for the organisation and maintaining all financial systems and databases.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the Senior Financial Accountant.
  • Maintain Financial Databases.
  • Manage Creditor and Debtor Processes for both internal and external clients/suppliers in accordance with policy.
  • Processing of payroll in accordance with DDACL Policies and Procedures.
  • Manage payroll processes including Salary Packaging and Superannuation.
  • Audit payroll data in accordance with DDACL policy and procedures.
  • Support managers to develop and analyse program budgets.
  • Perform financial reconciliations and deal with outstanding issues.
  • Coordinate financial authorisations in accordance with Delegation Table/Board Approval.
  • Prepare financial quotes ensuring accuracy.
  • Analysis and preparation of data and reports relating to financial transactions.
  • Action financial checklists and delegated ad hoc actions items by due date.
  • Review and respond to all enquiries in a timely manner.
  • Identify and escalate discrepancies with financial transactions and policies.
  • Prioritise tasks to ensure individual and team deadlines are met.
  • Provide support to other team members and operate in accordance with team objectives.
  • Provide training to other staff as required.
  • Ensure delegated processes are documented and up to date, to ensure succession of the team.
  • Finance Support Duties as required.
  • Prepare financial reports for the CEO, Manager of Corporate Services and the Board including budgets vs actuals, etc.
  • Develop and implement best practice policies, systems and procedures relevant to the position.
  • Ensure the communications Risk Management register is contemporary and maintain relevant compliance obligations.
  • Other duties as directed.

Main Activities:

  • Conducts themselves in a manner which supports health and safety policy and regulation.
  • Complies with health and safety policy and procedure implemented by the organisation in the interests of HSE.
  • Reports any incidents or near misses to immediate supervisor using approved procedures in a diligent and timely manner.
  • Asks questions or seeks instructions if unsure or unclear on any matter likely to cause harm.
  • Ensure the protection of the community is paramount whilst delivering and visiting services off-site and on-site.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:

Qualifications / Experience:

  • Qualified Accountant, with minimum 1 year relevant experience.
  • Excellent general computer and administrative skills.
  • Demonstrated high level of experience with Budgetlink.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work co-operatively and effectively with the Corporate Services Team and maintain a high level of confidentiality in relation to the organisations and individual information.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise workload, work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to relate to and work positively with DDACL staff and managers.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Previous experience in a not-for-profit organisation.
  • Knowledge of ACCHO and/or government community and health sector environment.

  • Reliable and Punctual: A high level of punctuality and reliability is required.

Safety Screening:

You would also possess a unrestricted current Driver Licence, Working with Children check, be willing to undertake a Police background check and provide proof of vaccination status.

Other:

  • Ongoing employment is subject to funding availability.
  • A 6-month probationary period applies.
