About us:

Corrective Services NSW (CSNSW) is looking for people with backgrounds in social work or similar to become identified Services and Programs Officers (SAPOs) and help transform lives. SAPOs support the safety and welfare of offenders within a Correctional Centre and the community by facilitating programs that reduce re-offending.

About the location:

Broken Hill Correctional Centre is a medium and minimum-security facility for male and female offenders. It's located in far western NSW, 1190km from Sydney. 

The medium security section is a reception prison for a large area of the State bordered by Queensland in the north, Victoria in the south and South Australia in the west. It holds a mixture of sentenced and remand inmates.

About the role:

  • Provide induction, assessment, support, and case management processes and reporting.
  • Facilitate group-based programs to offenders within a Correctional Centre or in the community.
  • Deliver strategies and programs that promote health and reduce harm for offenders.
  • Undertake individual interventions for offenders as required.
  • Resolve critical situations by providing information, expertise, support and referrals.
  • Assist offenders with pre-release planning.
  • Maintain documentation and case notes on all offenders receiving services.
  • Working effectively with a diverse range of offenders.
  • Managing key internal and external relationships with offender’s families and external agencies.

About you:

  • Demonstrate professionalism by setting an example for others to follow.
  • Commit to customer service by identifying customer needs and implement solutions.
  • Demonstrate accountability by following safe work practices.
  • Intermediate knowledge of computer applications for effective use in records and information management 

Requirements of the role:

  • Tertiary qualifications in social or other relevant discipline or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the transitional factors affecting offenders and their families.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in assessment, case management and intervention with clients with complex welfare and alcohol and drug related needs.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in delivering group based interventions.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of alcohol and other drug dependence and evidenced based interventions.
  • Current NSW driver licence with ability and willingness to travel throughout NSW.
