At DCJ, we know the more Aboriginal caseworkers we have, the more Aboriginal kids grow up safely at home with mob. We’re excited to welcome motivated Aboriginal caseworkers with cultural knowledge and experience who can help make this happen.

We have Community Service Centres in Albury, Cootamundra, Deniliquin, Griffith, Leeton, Tumut and Wagga Wagga.

About the role

Caseworkers respond to reports about children or young people who may have been harmed or where there are safety concerns. The first priority is always the safety, welfare and wellbeing of the children or young person.

In the role you will:

  • Work sensitively and respectfully with parents, family members, children or young people
  • Share your cultural knowledge and experience
  • Work collaboratively with other agencies
  • Develop safety plans and undertake risk assessments
  • Manage cases and situations including working with high needs and high risk clients and their families
  • Be involved in court processes, including the preparation of court documents and attending court
  • Engage in complex problem solving
  • Participate in individual and group supervision

About you

For Aboriginal applicants a relevant diploma or degree qualification is preferred. Applicants without a relevant qualification are required to demonstrate at least two years experience working with vulnerable children, young people and their families. For successful applicants without a relevant qualification, a commitment to gain a relevant qualification will be required during the course of employment. Communities and Justice trains and offers career development opportunities for all staff and the attainment of a relevant qualification will be supported.

Aboriginal people interested in applying for the Aboriginal caseworker position must have a commitment to providing support and strengthening relationships between Communities and Justice and the local Aboriginal community. This support should reinforce the ongoing and sustainable provision of better service delivery and outcomes for Aboriginal children, young people, families and communities.

In addition to identifying as an Aboriginal person, a valid drivers licence is required and willingness to drive. You also require a Working with Children clearance number.
