Djerriwarrh Community & Education Services (Djerriwarrh) is a highly regarded not-for-profit charitable organisation which has been delivering high quality education, training, employment and youth programs in the western suburbs of Melbourne since 1989. Program:

The VCAL (Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning) is an accredited secondary certificate which is a hands-on option for year 11 and 12 students, offering practical work-related experience and learning. Djerriwarrh delivers Foundation, Intermediate and Senior VCAL streams. The VCAL has four curriculum strands: Literacy and Numeracy Skills; Industry Specific Skills; Work Related Skills; Personal Development Skills.

The objective of the program is to engage and support students to successfully complete the VCAL. At the conclusion of VCAL students will have practical work-related experience and a qualification that is recognised by other Registered Training Organisations including TAFE and employers. This will assist students to move from school into work, an apprenticeship or traineeship and/or further training.

Role:

  • Teach the required class hours and the specified day(s) as negotiated with the VCAL Manager.
  • Develop and implement contemporary and innovative teaching practices relevant to young people with diverse LLN and employment barriers, including the effective use of ICT, to enhance student engagement and meet individual needs and pathways.
  • Develop assessment tools and strategies and assess, moderate and report on student individual learning outcomes.
  • Deliver training and assessment documentation that is compliant with VCAL requirements, VRQA and the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) 2010 Standards including session plan, individual/group training plan and assessment tools.
  • Monitor student attendance and maintain attendance/student contact records according to VCAL requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with the VCAL Manager and refer students to guidance and/or welfare staff and support services where appropriate.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Teaching qualification and current VIT registration required.
  • Experience in the delivery of VCAL or similar type of education program advantageous.
  • TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or equivalent) advantageous.
