Chairperson / President - Veterinary Practitioners Registration

Davidson Search & Advisory
  • Protect the Welfare of Animals
  • Profile Role with Monthly Board Meetings
  • 3 Year Remunerated Appointment

about the role

The Veterinary Practitioners Registration Board of Victoria (the Veterinary Board) is a statutory authority responsible for regulating veterinary practitioners in Victoria. The Veterinary Board's primary objective is to protect the public and the health and welfare of animals through the administration of the Veterinary Practice Act 1997. The Board consists of nine members - four registered veterinary practitioners (small animal, equine and production animal experience highly regarded); one legal practitioner; two non-veterinarians with experience in finance and business management, legal practice or the use of veterinary services; one Victorian Government representative; and a University of Melbourne employed registered veterinary practitioner.

The Board works as a team and meets monthly to consider relevant matters, including registration of veterinary practitioners, investigation of complaints made against registered veterinary practitioners, setting guidelines for professional practice and general governance. The Board also provides information and advice to the Minister as required. Meetings may be convened outside the normal meeting schedule to consider urgent matters.

about you

The Chairperson / President will ideally have previous Chair experience of a Board and/or Committee or be an individual with significant Board experience, who is ready to progress to a Chair role. Passionate about stakeholder engagement, the Chair will be able to work with a diverse range of parties in the public and private sectors and take a practical approach to corporate governance. The Chair must ensure that they can devote sufficient time and commitment to properly perform their role and duties on behalf of the Veterinary Board.

The Victorian Government is committed to ensuring that government boards and committees reflect the rich diversity of the Victorian community, and equal representation of women on government boards. Women now make up more than 50 per cent of new appointments to paid boards.
