Darebin is situated on the Traditional Owner lands of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people. It is home to many Aboriginal community-controlled organisations, and a large number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people work, live and play within the municipality.
Darebin is also home to one of the most diverse communities in Victoria in terms of culture, language (more than 118 languages are spoken), ethnicity, faith and beliefs, gender, age, ability, sexuality, gender identity, class, socio-economic status, income, education level, occupation and caring responsibility.
Council responds to the many needs of the Darebin community, notably First Nations residents and organisations.
The Strategic Planning team develops policies and strategies relating to land use and development in Darebin. Our projects cover a broad range of areas, including affordable housing, open space, developer contributions, structure planning and strategic redevelopment. We ensure projects create benefit for the community and balance the needs of different stakeholders.
Apply your knowledge and experience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues to the planning system. Develop policies to address housing inequality and increase affordable housing supply. Engage with community and other stakeholders on planning and housing issues.
