About Us

Dambimangari Aboriginal Corporation is the corporate body for the Dambimangari Peoples, providing a range of programs for the benefit of the Traditional Owners which provide employment, business and social/economic assistance. The corporation is predominantly self-funded through royalties received from the mining of iron ore on Koolan Island.

The person we seek

To be successful in this position, you will be an experienced skipper on vessels up to 12m, with a NC1 Coxswain qualification. You will have demonstrated experience in extended voyages, flexibility and organisation skills. You will have a passion for mentoring and training others, and an ability to work and communicate effectively with indigenous people. Ideally you would have experience with indigenous organisations and marine experience along the Kimberley coastline.

Whilst the primary responsibility of this role will be to act as master of the DAC ranger vessel, including supervising the vessel, it will also include a strong training and development focus, with an end goal of handing over vessel operations to the sea ranger team. Other responsibilities include providing logistical and administrative duties to ensure compliance with regulations and legislation and safe marine operations.

When the vessel is not in service (including scheduled and unplanned events) this role would be expected to plan and skipper extended trips (up to 2-weeks) and develop policies and procedures and documentation, development of vessel SMS and certificate of operation, accredited and non-accredited maritime focussed training with DAC Rangers, participate and assist with conservation land management works alongside DAC Rangers and general maintenance of DAC work shed and on country ranger base camps.

Planned annual Leave or other leave will only be approved in the November – March period.

What we offer

A base salary of $80,000 per annum is offered depending on your skills, qualifications and experience. The package includes additional benefits such as 4-weeks Annual Leave with 17.5% Leave Loading, 1-week Remote Leave, Annual Airfare Allowance, District Allowance, Derby Location Allowance (contribution to rent & electricity - if employed from outside the Shire of Derby West Kimberley) and Salary Packaging.
