About the corporation:

The Dambimangari Native Title Determination covers 16,040 square kilometres of land and 11,896 square kilometres of sea country in the remote North Kimberley, dotted with more than 720 islands. Led by the Elders and the Dambimangari Aboriginal Corporation, Traditional Owners are working to continue to build a successful future for their people, drawing on the strong links between the land and the Dambimangari identity. The Corporation uses funds from Native Title agreements, government, and business investments to provide:

  • Conservation and land management activities
  • Cultural programs and return to country trips
  • Business development
  • Employment and training initiatives
  • Subsidised medical and health services
  • Education support and collaboration with tertiary education campuses
  • Household goods for Dambimangari people and
  • Funding for hardship relief

About the role:

Reporting to the Marine Parks & Joint Management Coordinator, this role is the key liaison between the Joint Management Board (JMB), the Dambimangari Aboriginal Corporation (DAC), the Department of Biodiversity, Conversation and Attractions (DBCA), and the broader Dambimangari community.

Under the guidance of the Marine Parks & Joint Management Coordinator, you will:

  • Provide day to day executive and administrative support to the Dambimangari Joint Management Board (JMB) members;
  • Facilitate meaningful and informed Dambimangari participation in Joint Management Board (JMB) meetings and business and, community communication support to the DAC;
  • Assist with Dambimangari allocation and expenditure of funding under the Indigenous Land Use Agreements (ILUAs) and other joint management funds; and
  • Contributes to and manages joint management projects and participates in marine park field work as required.

About you:

We’re looking for a pro-active and enthusiastic candidate, with experience in high level administrative support and high attention to detail. We’re looking for someone who is passionate about working in the remote Kimberley and building relationships across stakeholder groups. Cultural competency of Indigenous culture and/or demonstrated respect and understanding of Aboriginal communities is a must.

You will also have the following demonstrated abilities:

  • Ability to confidently prepare reports, correspondence, presentations, minutes and briefing.
  • Be self-motivated and able to work autonomously.
  • Strong liaison skills across different stakeholders.
  • Strong initiative and brilliant at problem solving.
  • Flexible and able to work under pressure, and to tight deadlines.
  • Strong inter-personal skills and communication skills and, high emotional intelligence.
  • An ability to obtain and maintain a Working with Children Check, National Police Clearance, a current valid Western Australian Driver’s Licence, First Aid Certificate.
