The Dambimangari Native Title Determination covers 16,040 square kilometres of land and 11,896 square kilometres of sea country in the remote North Kimberley, dotted with more than 720 islands. Led by the Elders and the Dambimangari Aboriginal Corporation, Traditional Owners are working to continue to build a successful future for their people, drawing on the strong links between the land and the Dambimangari identity. The Corporation uses funds from Native Title agreements, government, and business investments to provide:

  • Conservation and land management activities
  • Cultural programs and return to country trips
  • Business development
  • Employment and training initiatives
  • Subsidised medical and health services
  • Education support and collaboration with tertiary education campuses

About the role

Reporting into the CEO, the Finance Manager is responsible for managing Dambimangari Aboriginal Corporation’s internal financial operations. This role plays a critical part in the effective delivery of Dambimangari Aboriginal Corporation’s financial operations to meet financial obligations and strengthen financial stability and growth, in accordance with Dambimangari Aboriginal Corporation’s Strategic Plan.

About you

We are seeking an experienced Finance Manager with brilliant problem-solving skills. The successful candidate will take responsibility for the preparation, monitoring, and management of accurate budgeting for the corporation and lead the budget planning process and preparing in consultation with the CEO and senior managers, for approval by the Board.

You will partake in Daily financial processing including accounts payable and receivable, as well as ad-hoc Members Services and corporation payments and ensure the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of all financial records, ensuring all records are reconciled and reviewed. As well as this, you will prepare the month end profit and loss, and balance sheet, and cashflow reports, including monthly balance sheet reconciliations and analysing transactions.

Selection Criteria

Essential:

  • Qualification in Bookkeeping
  • Registered BAS Agent or ability to register
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Experience using MYOB
  • Experience using time sheeting or time clocking system/s (similar to TANDA)
  • Strong financial management ability with financial accounting, tax, budgeting and forecasting experience with exposure to a variety of financial statements and audits.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and listening skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated and ability to work autonomously.
  • Brilliant at problem solving and providing tailored solutions
  • Excellent organisational, planning and time management skills, to meet competing deadlines.
  • Strong computer and administrative skills
  • Technical skills in financial reporting and accounting;
  • Technical skills in tax compliance (income tax, FBT, BAS, GST)

Desirable:

  • Experience working in/with Aboriginal communities
