About us:

We’re in the process of setting up our new foundation and we’re looking for enthusiastic and experienced people to join our volunteer board as we go through the process of incorporation.

The Charles Tyers Foundation aims to continue the work of our namesake, colonial administrator and explorer Charles Tyers, in advancing Western Victoria and Gippsland. Charles was Commissioner of Crown Lands for Portland (1842-1843) and Gippsland (1844-1867).

Our object is to pursue the following charitable purposes: supporting, funding and operating initiatives that enhance and improve the welfare, culture, liveability and amenity of Western Victoria and Gippsland and their communities.

Board meetings will be held via technology. As we are in the start-up phase ad-hoc meetings may be required.

About the role:

We are looking for an experienced board director for the role of Chair. Someone who has a professional background in management, business, finance or corporate services, not for profit or government. Potentially someone who has completed training or qualifications in governance (community directors or AICD).

The Chair would take leadership of the board, chairing meetings, working with the Founder to ensure meeting minutes and agenda contain relevant and timely information for board meetings - someone who isn’t afraid to drive the strategy (this is a start-up organisation so we need someone who can articulate the organisation’s vision and strategy).

The Chair would be the primary contact with the Founder/CEO, so regular meetings would be required as we set up the organisation. We need someone who can act as an ambassador to help drive community support.

The chair and board directors should share our vision for compassion, justice and helping others. Professional memberships of AICD or ICDA not required, but looked upon favourably. Chair and board members may be required to become members of the ICDA to meet ATO ‘responsible persons’ requirements.
