The ACS will be the Commonwealth’s trusted provider of data, information and knowledge to support improved preparation for, response to and recovery from natural disasters, reducing risk and building resilience, in Australia. It brings together Australia’s leading climate and natural disaster information and expertise in a customer-led and mission-focussed national capability.  A number of newly created roles are available to support delivery of the ACS portfolio of projects and will be based within CSIRO Land & Water (L&W). Through an integrated systems research approach CSIRO L&W provides the information and technologies required by government, industry and the Australian and international communities to protect, restore, and manage natural and built environments.  

As the Senior Social Architect (institutional design) you will support digital transformation efforts in the disaster risk reduction and other domains through strategic service and business analysis, design of the institutional elements of platforms and data infrastructure, and development and application of frameworks for the analysis of institutional arrangements for digital platforms and information production and use. Additionally, you will work closely with senior colleagues to contribute to the development of a Social Architecture research agenda supporting the development of impactful national data infrastructure. This will underpin coordinated effort across Australian Climate Services projects, building important capability for the development of programs driving national-scale digital transformation. The role will be based within CSIRO L&W’s Social Architecture team and will have the opportunity to work with and support other projects across CSIRO L&W’s portfolio of activity.  

Applications are invited across two job classification levels and the successful candidate will be appointed at the level commensurate with their skills and experience. 

Your duties will include:

  • Conduct strategic (business) analysis, assess requirements for and design and implement institutional elements of platforms/data infrastructure. This includes design of networked project, program and broader digital economy wide governance bodies, decision rights and decision-making processes. 
  • Assessing and documenting the decision context, rules and regulations, and supporting the development and implementation of rules, regulations and standards that shape collective activity in disaster risk and other domains.  
  • Support the design of platform business models that are integrated with governance arrangements. 
  • Support development and application of frameworks to analyse and design institutional arrangements for digital platforms and information production and use. 
  • Work with senior colleagues to contribute to the development of a Social Architecture research agenda. 
  • Location: Canberra preferred, other locations negotiable 
  • Salary: AUD $117k - $157k plus up to 15.4% super

To be considered you will need:

  • Bachelor or above degree in social or behavioural sciences, public administration, or other (digital) political economy related field.  
  • Proven ability and experience in the successful analysis, design and/or implementation of institutional arrangements for socio-technical systems. 
  • Proven ability to apply human centred design approaches to strategic analysis and design for digital/service transformation.  
  • Experience in the research, design, implementation or operation of digital platform, data infrastructure.  
  • Ability to proactively develop and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, to understand and respond to client needs, delivering information relevant to diverse audiences, and appropriate channel selection.

Eligibility
