About the Role:

The Community Engagement Officer will be responsible for providing community education, and community development activities to families within the Pre-amalgamated Bankstown Local Government Area.

This is currently a 12-month part time contract 22.8 hrs per week (3 days per week), with an option for renewal. This spread of hours can be either in 3 solid days or spread out over the entire week allowing flexibility to suit your lifestyle commitments.

Initially this role will be working from home due to CV19 restrictions with a supportive induction plan tailored for virtual onboarding. Once restrictions permit you will be working amongst our lovely team in our vibrant offices located in the heart of the Bankstown CBD. Located behind our building is free un-timed parking within a council provided carpark.

As a Community Engagement Officer, your duties will include:

  • Provide advocacy, information and practical support to families and young people;
  • Ensure the wellbeing of children and young people are actively safeguarded and concerns are reported;
  • Provide community education services to families which incorporates the provision of support and guidance to young people;
  • Be responsible for informing families of the service obligations in relation to Child Protection;
  • Ensure all records and data collection are accurate and maintained in line with service policy and legislative requirements;
  • Promote and deliver programs which are of benefit and support to families, children and young people within the local community
  • Develop and maintain networks and collaborative partnerships with key agencies and community groups.

The ideal candidate will meet the following criteria:

  • Relevant qualifications in a related field such as Social Welfare field; or Community development etc.
  • Well-developed understanding and experience in working with families with complex needs;
  • Experience in community development and or community strengthening
  • Strong understanding of Child Protection, relevant legislation and knowledge of research and theoretical frameworks;
  • Ability to appropriately respond to the needs of people from all communities including Indigenous, CALD and LGBTQIA;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Experience in report writing using analytical skills;
  • Knowledge of WHS and Safety Legislation;
  • Understanding of social justice issues;
  • WWCC and Police Check;
  • Be vaccinated against CV19 in alignment with NSW Health mandate for our sector;

Desirable Criteria:

  • Fluency in another language as well as English;
  • First Aid Certificate.
  • Trained facilitator in evidenced based parenting programs.
