Canberra Rape Crisis Centre (CRCC) is a non-government, not for profit, feminist organisation working to eliminate sexual violence against women, young people, children, families and men. The organisation is engaged in raising awareness about sexual violence, fostering partnerships with key agencies and across sectors which contribute to addressing the structural causes of violence, improving justice responses and building an integrated service system which better supports women, young people, children and men impacted by sexual violence. CRCC is a complex and unique agency that encompasses a service dedicated to supporting men, Service Assisting Male Survivors of Sexual Assault (SAMSSA), and a dedicated Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander community service, Nguru, that provides crisis and counselling support for the impacts and effects of recent and historical trauma, making CRCC nationally unique for the diversity of services provided within one agency.
- A 24 hour crisis call out service to police and forensic services every day of the year
- A crisis and counselling telephone support service between 7am-11pm (7 days a week)
- Counselling and group work to survivors of sexual assault and their families and supporters
- Education, training and professional consultation to agencies and private practitioners.
- Participate in a crisis roster for telephone crisis intervention, between the service hours of 7:00am and 11:00pm seven days a week and callouts to medical, police and forensic services, including after hour shifts.
- Participate in on call shifts to support clients reporting to police and forensic services.
- Provide phone counselling, information referral, advocacy and support services to women, men, children, young people and their non-offending supporters, who have experienced sexual assault.
- Develop, coordinate and monitor case plans of CRCC clients including attendance at case conferences as appropriate to the role.
- Provide information, consultation and informal debriefing regarding issues related to client work.
- Support clients to navigate the criminal justice system and other legal or administrative systems.
- As required, plan, develop and facilitate education and training for a range of stakeholders on topics related to sexual violence.
- In consultation with Management, write reports for external agencies, such as reports for the Family Court, Criminal Courts, Immigration, Housing, Centrelink and victim impact statements.
- Adhere to policies, procedures and established work practices.
- Demonstrate respect and work with diversity and difference in the workplace and in the community.
- Articulate knowledge and understanding of the causes and consequences of sexual violence, within a feminist framework.
- Experience in providing counselling, information, referral, advocacy, group work and support services to people who have experienced interpersonal violence.
- Ability to or experience in presenting and delivering training to professional organisations and clients.
- Ability to or experience in forming relationships and partnerships with other professional organisation and in working with them towards joint goals.
- Proven ability to work independently within a team environment, to identify priorities, meet deadlines and to manage the workload.
- Demonstrated ability to work positively in a team to promote and model collaborative and respectful staff and client relationships.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Computer literacy including use of Word, email and information databases.
- This is a woman only position under s 34 (1) of the Discrimination Act 1991 which does not make it unlawful for a person to discriminate against someone else on the grounds of sex in relation to a position as an employee, contract worker etc., if it is a genuine occupational qualification for the position.
- Child Protection legislation requires that the preferred applicant will be required to undertake an employment screening including a Police check and must hold a current Working with Vulnerable Persons Card.
- Tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology or counselling or relevant experience are required.
- A current driver’s licence is required
- Previous experience working in an advocacy or service delivery organisation.
- Current knowledge and experience of the ACT community services and women’s services in the ACT.
