CPSU Tasmania is looking for an Organiser to join our small team. Five years’ experience as an Organiser or equivalent role is preferred. However, don't let a lack of experience stop you from applying.

This is a permanent full-time role but is also available as a part time or fixed term role if the successful applicant prefers.

ABOUT CPSU

The Community Public Sector Union is a member-led union whose purpose is to protect and improve public services for all Tasmanians and the working lives of those who deliver them.

CPSU is the oldest and most established union for Tasmania’s public sector employees.

Our Members

CPSU members work in the Tasmanian public sector, health and community care, prisons, universities, as well as Government owned and managed enterprises.

THE TEAM

You would be joining a small team of 15, who are passionate about the change we are making and have a laugh in the process.

Position Purpose

The Union is driving change by growing union membership, developing leadership amongst our members, and taking collective action.

The role of the Organiser is focused on organising workers to successfully take up issues that are important to them and harness workplace power for union priority campaigns & industrial outcomes.

Key activities include:

  • Recruitment of new members
  • Identification and development of workplace leaders and activists
  • Building workplace networks and sustainable structures
  • Development and implementation of campaigns and activities that empower members, build collective action and grow the CPSU
  • Developing workplace strategies in conjunction with members for the resolution of workplace issues
  • Representing union members in meetings with management and negotiations
  • Providing advice and support for union members
  • Delivering training and mentoring of workplace leaders.

selection criteria

Essential Requirements:

  • Ability to recruit, mentor and develop workplace leaders through effective and skilled communication
  • Experience in advocacy and negotiation
  • Strong digital skills and some familiarity with CRM databases, Microsoft Office365, social media and other communication platforms
  • Knowledge of contemporary Industrial Relations and Workplace Health and Safety legislation and practice
  • Ability to make effective work plans and work to strategic plans
  • Support for trade union principles and workers’ rights

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience working for a union or experience in community organising
  • Knowledge of Tasmanian State Service and Tasmanian Industrial Relations jurisdiction

REMUNERATION

An attractive remuneration package will be offered to the successful applicant, which will include:

  • Salary commensurate with demonstrated skills and experience, range $75 000 to $90 000;
  • 10% superannuation.
  • 26 days annual leave.

This role is based in Hobart available full time or part time, flexible work arrangements are available and encouraged.
